The Allegheny County Jail is under the control of the Allegheny County Bureau of Corrections. There is a main jail, located in downtown Pittsburgh, along with three small alternative facilities. The main facility has a maximum capacity of 3,156 inmates, while about 200 inmates can be held at the alternative locations. The acting Warden is Shane T. Dady.

Inmates are allowed two 1-hour visits per week. Certain inmates may qualify for contact visits once per month. Inmates can also initiate video visits on demand, for up to 30 minutes at a time. The cost is 25 cents per minute. Onsite visits must be scheduled in advance.
Visitors should not wear lime green, neon green, neon yellow, or orange clothing.
